“[In deep winter was]” by Brian Horner with art by Linc Cohen

A Subway Station, 1912, New York Public Library
In deep winter was
a homeless man in a Chicago alley
found dead in a pool of ice
His black sneakers sticking up
from under the frozen glass
It was three days after the first 911 call
before police finally arrived
to chisel him out
He had white socks
